Zip Corvette Shows How to Update the Body Mounts on 1963-1982 Corvettes

DIY Project: Zip Corvette Shows How to Update the Body Mounts on 1963-1982 Corvettes

Zip Corvette has recently published a series of three technical articles that guide you through a 1963-1982 Corvette Body Mount Replacement. There are only 8 body mounts on 1963-1982 Corvettes, so replacing them is a realistic project for the seasoned DIY enthusiast. If the Corvette has lived a dry, garaged life, the replacement is rather straightforward.

But the more common reality is that most C2 and C3 Corvettes have accumulated 40+ years worth of corrosion on their steel components, particularly on the parts and fasteners that are subject to rain and road splash. Rusted fasteners cause problems – and the solution can’t be found in your assembly and service manuals.

Zip Corvette to the rescue!

Read Zip’s three-part series “1963-1982 Corvette Body Mount Replacements” for step-by-step instructions (including photos!) on how to remove weathered body mount bolts and replace body mounts without having to remove the body entirely from the frame. Follow along and avoid creating the need for much more costly work.

The first article shows you how to remove the relatively easy front mount and the more trouble-prone rear. Article #2 covers the particular problems and solutions for removing the bolts from the two central mounts and the final installment details installing the body mounts without removing the body after the 8 bolts have been removed.

The work shown in this series of tech articles happens on a 1973 Corvette, the first year that had rubber body mounts. The same rubber mounts were used until the end of the C3 run in 1982. The previous years, 1963-1972 used metal body mounts but the procedure is similar. Zip Corvette offers both of these types of body mounts in complete kits and also offers polyurethane replacements.
