It’s been a while since we shared a rendering of a possible Corvette SUV, about which rumors have been spreading on the internet for the past few years.

Obviously, purists don’t like the idea of anything like an ordinary four-door vehicle mentioned in the same breath as “America’s Sports Car.”

But in today’s profit-driven corporate world, it might not necessarily be a bad thing to stretch the Corvette brand in another direction, the way other sports car legends like Lamborghini and Ferrari are doing.

The latest rendering of such a possible Corvette SUV was penned by a creative designer at General Motors named Jason Chen, who posted this drawing on his Instagram account at @macotodesign.

With GM rapidly beaming itself up to the electric vehicle universe, it doesn’t take much of a stretch to believe that the company might be considering a super-powered SUV with all the pizazz of the Corvette brand standing behind it. While gasoline runs through our veins as much as the next guy and we don’t want to see the exhausts sounds of an LT2 disappear anytime soon, we still are intrigued by the possibilities that electric power could offer as far as increased performance levels.

We already know that an electric hybrid C8 Corvette named the E-Ray is apparently in the works, so it wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise to see a totally electric Corvette SUV. A 2021 Bloomberg report said that GM is already working on at least one electric Corvette SUV as the Corvette brand begins to expand, We’ve said it before, though, that such a vehicle would need to be far above a standard-issue GM sport utility vehicle like the Blazer or Suburban.

While Corvette enthusiasts have argued against the likes of the demise of hidden headlights and round taillights in the past, and even the mid-engine format, the popularity of the 2020-22 C8 Corvette since its introduction proves to us that even old dogs can be taught new tricks.

We like the look of this Corvette SUV rendering, but we’d prefer to see the envelope pushed even more. Shake up the automotive world and make it even wilder than the Lambo Urus, GM!
